Sport First Responder Course Review, Calgary Winter Club

Have you ever been in a position to assist an unconscious mountain biker with spinal injuries, eviscerated abdominal contents and a compound fracture? The was only one of the challenging scenarios that participants dealt with on the recent Sport First Responder course organized by Sport Physiotherapy Alberta.Instructor Stan Leene.

He used his incredible imagination when thinking up potential practical sessions for his course participants! Combining unique props, bull riding videos and many anecdotal stories, Stan presented the required material in an interesting and educational format.

The course covered Advanced First Aid, CPR, AED training, bandaging, and slings and splints of every type.In addition we practiced helmet removal, backboard transfers, application of hard collars and all within the sport environment. There was lots of practical time which meant that the participants were able to gain confidence in dealing with emergency situations.

This course is well worth taking -- a must for anyone working in the sporting world!!
