Sport Physiotherapy Alberta continues to work to present the Sport First Responder course in Calgary and Edmonton. The Sport First Responder is now the standard required in the education programs of Sport Physiotherapy Canada and the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association. Again a reminder to all those interested in doing their Sport Medicine Certificate and Sport Medicine Diploma exams that as of August 2007, you must have your Sport First Responder Course to be a Certification Candidate. Once you are a certification candidate, you may then apply for your Sport Medicine Certificate.

Are you a diploma or certificate holder? Are you on the mentor list?

Mentors are needed to help certification candidates progress through the examination process.

A  mentor is responsible for:

  1. having a working knowledge of the education syllabus and exam process
  2. determin the candidates current knowledge and skill level and suggest a proposed plan for the candidate to obtain the necessary objectives
  3. provide resource material as necessary for both theoretical and practical components of the syllabus
  4. meet with the candidate regularly (every 50 hours or at least every 3 months) to review and discuss progress and to fill out a progress report
  5. review logbook entries with the candidate and make recommendations for further pursuits
  6. make a recommendation to SPC on the candidate's readiness to attempt the exam

Sample mentor report and recommendation forms  are available from SPC or in the SPC educationsyllabus.

If you are not on the list and are qualified, why not mentor someone and get yourself on the list.

Have you decided not to maintain your SPC credentials? - Have you considered the inactive status? ....For more information contact Sport Physiotherapy Canada at info@sportphysio.org
